Supporting School Readiness Together

At Sarah’s Little Stars, preparing children for school is a shared journey between our team and parents. By talking positively about school and working closely together, we help children feel confident, supported and excited about this important next step.

To support each child in becoming school ready, we gently encourage them to:

• Explore early phonics and sounds

• Follow simple instructions and routines

• Use the toilet independently

• Undress themselves and manage shoes, coats and bags

• Communicate their needs and feelings

• Build friendships and social skills

• Recognise and write their own name

• Understand boundaries and expectations

We understand that every child develops at their own pace, and some of these skills may take a little longer to master. That’s why strong communication with parents and carers is so important — many of these skills can be supported both at home and within our setting.

Through a wide range of age-appropriate, play-based activities, we help children develop the confidence and independence they need for a smooth transition into school.
